Why I Write Books That Feel Like a Soft Place to Land
(And why I’ll never apologize for comforting fiction)
There’s a lot of talk in the book world about “serious” stories. The ones that win awards. The ones that tackle heavy, important topics. And don’t get me wrong—those stories matter.
But I don’t write those stories. Not usually.
I write comfort books. Escape books. The kind of books you curl up with when the world feels too loud.
And for a long time, I thought maybe that wasn’t enough. That writing something soft or warm or uplifting wasn’t “real” enough to count.
But then I started hearing from readers—women who were going through hard things, or who just needed a break from the chaos of everyday life.
Women who hadn’t read in years but picked up The Beach House and suddenly remembered why they loved stories in the first place.
Women who were caring for aging parents, battling anxiety, rebuilding after divorce, grieving, surviving.
And they weren’t looking for tragedy.
They were looking for hope.
They didn’t want to cry. They wanted to exhale.
That’s what I try to give them.
Books that feel like a warm blanket. Characters that feel like old friends. A small town where people show up for each other. A story that makes you feel a little lighter when you turn the last page.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel better.
There’s nothing silly about needing joy.
So yes—I write comfort books. Escape books. Feel-good books.
And I’m proud of it.
If that’s what you’re looking for, I hope you’ll always find it here with me.
I couldn’t fit them all on the graphic, but if you’re looking for comforting books, I’ve got plenty for you!
Happy reading!
